Staff Accountant
Joining The Phillips Group as a Staff Accountant means you will have the support of a seasoned team dedicated to providing you with the on-the-job skills training that you will need to be successful. However, this position is by no means entry-level. You will not only be stepping into an active public accounting firm but will be immediately assigned a workload of 30 - 50 clients for whom you will be solely responsible. This means that, while ongoing review and additional training by senior accountants and management are always at the ready, you must have experience compiling financial statements as a staff accountant in a public accounting firm.
Job Summary: In short, you will be responsible for the monthly preparation of financial statements and other business documents for small business healthcare clients. You will be their Dedicated Staff Accountant, responsible for interacting with them, answering their questions, and addressing their business- or financial-related concerns.
Responsibilities
Perform general accounting tasks: This includes processing accounts payable and receivable, recording journal entries, and preparing bank reconciliations.
Support month-end and year-end close procedures: This involves ensuring all accounts are reconciled and accurate, and financial statements are prepared on time.
Prepare financial statements: You may assist with the preparation of financial statements for a variety of clients, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues: You will need to clearly explain accounting concepts to clients and collaborate with other staff members on various projects.
Use accounting software proficiently: Use specialized accounting software, including QuickBooks Online Accountant and EasyAcct, to manage clients' finances. You will need to be proficient in this software.
Manage client relationships: Communicate effectively with clients to obtain the required business documentation needed to prepare monthly financials, including bank and credit statements, payroll reports, etc., and to address their questions and concerns throughout the year.
Depending on your current skills and desired professional growth, your responsibilities may also begin to include:
Assist with audit and tax engagements: You will help senior accountants with tasks such as gathering data, performing financial statement analysis, and preparing audit reports and tax returns.
Compensation
Starting at $28 to $30 per hour but open to negotiation for highly qualified & driven candidates.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, tax, finance, or economics from an accredited university
Knowledge of general accounting concepts
At least two (2) years of documented experience as a staff accountant in a public accounting firm
Familiarity with QuickBooks Online
Ability to use standard computer software applications
Strong customer service skills
Strong research skills and the ability to quickly use online resources to find answers
Ability to prioritize daily tasks and meet timely obligations with many clients
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Lacerte
Familiarity with EasyAcct
