Accounting Intern

Joining The Phillips Group as an Accounting Intern means you will have the support of a seasoned team dedicated to providing you with the on-the-job skills training that you will need to be successful. This position is entry-level. We do not expect you to know how to be a public accountant; rather, we only expect you to understand the fundamentals of accounting and, more importantly, be willing to continue learning.

This position can either be Part-time with Flexible Schedules or Full-time with Full Benefits, at your preference. Either way, this is a paid internship.

Job Summary: In short, you'll be responsible for learning, through hands-on training with ongoing mentorship, the compilation method of public accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with clients to obtain the required business documentation needed to prepare monthly financials, including bank and credit statements, payroll reports, etc.

  • Assist with research, filing, data entry, and recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial records

  • Properly research and seek the advice of senior accountants when confronted with particularly challenging circumstances

  • Ensure that all clients receive their financial statements on time

  • Ensure accuracy of financial statements, making sure that the final figures on statements are correct

  • Attend continuing education courses to remain aware of changes to forms and new standards for completing tax paperwork

  • Take on additional tasks or projects to learn more about accounting, tax, or public accounting firm operations

Compensation

Starting at $22/hour.

 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled student of accounting at an accredited 4-year university

  • Must have completed introductory accounting courses

  • Knowledge of general accounting concepts

  • Ability to use standard computer software applications

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Strong research skills and the ability to quickly use online resources to find answers

  • Ability to prioritize daily tasks and meet timely obligations with many clients

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or tax

  • Experience in any professional office setting (accountant, doctor, lawyer, etc.)

  • Familiarity with QuickBooks Online
